When it comes to looking after your hair, it appears so simple that you might think there’s no room for error. Unfortunately, your hair needs a little more care than you might have thought otherwise. Pay attention to the following in order to figure out how to look after your hair in the proper manner.
1. Hot Water
Hot baths are hard to resist, particularly after a tiring day. Whether you were sitting in one place or had to be on your toes throughout the day, a hot bath helps relive and soothe tired muscles. Unfortunately, hot water dries hair follicles and skin, causing it to lose oil and irritating production of sebum. Always use warm, tepid or cold water.
2. Towel Drying
Towel drying can be responsible for weakening hair. The friction caused by rubbing hair to dry them often causes hair frizz, breakage, dullness and roughening of the cuticle. It is advisable to blot hair, instead of rubbing it or use a t-shirt to dry hair with since its material will absorb water more readily.
3. Usage of Incorrect Shampoos
With hair, the shampoos you use play a huge role in keeping your hair in good condition. For this reason it is important to buy hair products that match your hair type. Using a shampoo for straight hair, on curly hair will not give you the results you were expecting. Moreover, if you have an oily scalp, you need to use a shampoo that helps regulate production of sebum. Regular shampoo will not help to meet your hair’s needs in this scenario.
4. Washing Hair on a Daily Basis
Good hygiene means taking the time to shower once a day. On the other hand, showering everyday doesn’t mean that you have to wash your hair on a daily basis too. Over cleaning or shampooing can strip your hair off vital natural oils and cause dryness of scalp that would lead to dandruff, lack luster or lifeless hair as well as hair that just falls flat.
5. Skipping on Hair Cuts
Split heads occur again and again to the ends of your hair and can appear the most when your hair is dry and losing moisture. Due to this, you need to get a hair trim, at least once every 2 to 3 months or so. Skipping on a hair trim allows these split ends to grow, creating a dry damaged mess and meaning that you might have to get your hair cut shorter to get the dead ends out. Seeing as how you were trying to preserve your hair length, this can be really counterproductive for your hair goals.
6. Conditioning Incorrectly
When you condition hair, you need to ensure that you’re doing it properly as well. Most people would just rub in conditioner all over their hair but unless you have thin or fine hair, you don’t need to get apply conditioner from root to tip. Applying conditioner to the ends is a better option since it allows you nourish the tips that grow weaker as they grow further away from the scalp.
