How to Make Your Hair Color Last Longer?

Once you’ve dyed your hair, the worst thing to deal with is when the color starts to lose the brilliant hue it had. Usually, a good hair dye can last up till 3-6 months but only if takes careful care of their hair color in order to make it last longer. Without this care, it can fade or simply turn a different shade within a week or two. Luckily, the following are some easy tips through which you can make your hair color last longer.

1.     Don’t Shampoo As Much

When you’ve dyed your hair, don’t shampoo your hair as often as you used to. For this reason, you should opt to shampoo three times in a week in order to avoid washing the color out of your hair.

2.     Pick Products Meant for It

Now you can’t go without shampooing your hair without the proper products. After you have dyed your hair, switch to a shampoo and conditioner that are meant for color treated hair. Certain shampoos can also be great in helping to lengthen the staying power of the hair color used.

3.     Deep Condition Your Hair

Changing the color of your hair is a process that exposes it to a lot of damage. Bright colors such as blondes and reds as well unorthodox colors such as blue, pink, green, purple and more can often require a lot of bleaching. Deep conditioning your hair improves its overall health and adds a healthy shine to your hair.

4.     Water Quality

The quality of the water that you use to wash your hair can also make a huge impact on the color quality. High deposits of iron or lime in water can change the color. Moreover, it is a good idea to avoid washing hair with hot water. Preferably, it should be warm. The best option is to keep an eye on the temperature and get a showerhead that has a filter on it.

5.     Sun block for Hair

Sun damage can also make a huge difference in the kind of hair color you sport. For this reason, you need to ensure that you hair doesn’t get any more damage from the sun. Invest in buying an SPF spray that is meant, specifically for use on hair.  Then all you have to do is spritz it on your hair and enjoy the sun.

6.     Swimming with Oily Hair

If you’re a swimmer, you might know that chlorine in the pool water can and does make an impact on your hair. However, it is the high number of minerals that are found in the water that causes the orange or green tinge that can completely ruin your hair color. To avoid this from happening, always slather your oil with baby oil. It works as a protective barrier and doesn’t let pool water turn your hair green or orange.

7.     Correcting Color Naturally

In case you do get green, orange or some other color’s tinge on your hair, get your hands on some tomato juice. Undo the damage by washing your hair in it.
