How To Switch Up Your Winter Skincare From Your Summer Skincare

It’s wintertime, and your wardrobe isn’t the only thing you need to be changing. Winter is harsh on the skin. The crisp cold air draws out moisture from the skin, causing dryness, dull skin, and enhances signs of aging too. Constantly moving in and out of the heated indoors also impacts the skin’s barrier.

Here’s how you can switch from a summer skincare routine to a winter one:

Focus on hydrating products

Dry skin is the number one skin complaint during this time of the year. Humidity levels are at an all-time low and the low temperatures dry out your skin furthermore. Your skin will feel dehydrated and sullen, as a result. Incorporate more hydrating products into your skincare routine. Hydration isn’t the same as moisture; it refers to water based products that plump up your skin.

Hyaluronic acid is the perfect hydrating ingredient for winters. It draws moisture to the surface of the skin and locks it in. Your skin will look more plump and smoother with the regular use of hyaluronic acid. You can also use aloe vera gel on your skin when it’s irritated and chapped.

Moisturize multiple times

Just focusing on hydration isn’t enough during winter. Your skin requires moisture as well. Incorporate more emollient and rich skincare products into your skincare routine for winter. Dense creams that focus on signs of aging are ideal. Don’t forget to reapply moisturizer throughout the day when your skin begins to feel tight.

Add a facial oil to your skincare routine to double up on the moisture levels. The benefit of a facial oil is that it locks in the moisture from your skincare products so you won’t need to reapply. Carrot seed oil is a great one to try on your skin.

Don’t ditch the SPF

Even though you turn paler during winter, the sun’s damaging rays are still a concern. The UV rays of the sun cause wrinkles, fine lines, and sun spots. Make sure you’re applying sunscreen whenever you leave your home during the day. Apply SPF20 minutes before you leave for the best results and don’t forget to reapply after a few hours.

Moisturizing face masks

Ditch your regular facemasks during winter. Focus on DIY masks for your skin type during this season. A mask made of avocado, yogurt, oil, and honey is ideal for dry skin during winter. The fatty acids in the avocado and oil will repair the skin’s protective barrier.
