While you do have to pay attention to what you apply to your hair, your diet also plays a major role in the kind of hair you have. Diets that are rich in Omega 3, fatty acids, amino acids and essential vitamins and nutrients are responsible for improving hair as well.
This means having to cut back drastically on unhealthy food items. Luckily, you may not need a total overhaul in your eating habits as long as you include the following food items in your diet that are really good for your hair.
1. Oily Fish
While all seafood is touted as good for your hair, certain fishes, particularly the oily ones, like salmon, mackerel and tuna have a higher content of Omega 3, fatty acids and amino acids that greatly boost hair growth and thickness. Oysters also contain a high amount of zinc that aid in keeping dandruff away, rectify hair loss and improve overall health of scalp. Eating these once or twice a week is enough to keep your hair healthy.
2. Walnuts and Almonds
A cup full of almonds and walnuts are great for your health and your hair. Their high content of biotin is perfect to help keep hair thicker while also aiding in boosting hair growth too. Moreover, they also contain Omega 3, Vitamin E and fatty acids that also help to strengthen hair as well.
3. Dairy Products
This doesn’t mean that you scarf down a whole tub of ice-cream to improve the health of your hair. High content of yogurt and milk in dairy products is responsible for great hair growth too since they contain calcium. Keep in mind that if you are lactose intolerant or are getting acne because of it, you can cut it out from your diet and opt for soy milk or almond milk. They don’t really count as dairy products but they are good alternatives.
Whether you get lentils, black beans, lima beans or chick peas, they all belong to the legume family and are rich in biotin that helps hair to grow longer, thicker and stay strong as well. The wide range of variety ensures that you don’t get tired of eating legumes and can keep your hair healthy by having legumes two to three times a week.
5. Flax and Sunflower Seeds
A handful of flax seeds or sunflower seeds are going to be perfect for your hair. Sunflower seeds are rich in Vitamin E that enhances circulation and improves growth of hair. Flax seed is full of proteins, Omega 3, and fatty acids that can thicken and strengthen your hair and encourage growth of new hair as well.
6. Leafy Greens
Green leafy vegetables such as collard greens, spinach, kale and others like them have a high iron content that helps keep your hair in good condition. An iron deficiency can lead to thinning and loss of hair too so getting a weekly dose of leafy greens is perfect to keep your hair thick and lustrous.
